I’m not feeling ok myself, how can I tell someone?

When you’re not feeling great, it can be hard to tell anyone, or ask for help, even if all you need is a chat or a hug.

Maybe you feel you need to ‘put a brave face on’ for family & friends, or that you’ll be ‘dragging others down’ if you say you’re not ok…

Feeling low DOES make you feel less like connecting at the very time you need it most.

And showing any kind of vulnerability can be really uncomfortable.

So, let’s turn it around, if your mate wasn’t feeling great, would you want them to tell you?

You don’t have to make it a big long conversation, it can be as simple as saying ‘I’m not feeling great right now, and I wanted you to know’.

Maybe you’d rather tell someone you don’t know? We’ve shared some options on our Get Help page, for local and national organisations you can talk to.

Things you can do

  1. Flip your thinking; what would you want your mate to do if they weren't ok?
  2. Check out the options; there is ALWAYS someone you can talk to.
  3. You don't have to say much to make a difference to how you feel.
